Today we Continue The Journey from the Head to the Heart - where I discover My Assignment... PART II
Aloha ,
As I walked into Jane and Gary’s living room in Inverness, something was waiting for me.
I took a deep breath as I looked out in awe.
The floor to ceiling glass windows opened out to the stunning, still, and vibrant Tomales Bay.
On either side, and behind me, the walls vibrated with the Egyptian art Jane had collected from decades of pilgrimages to that mystical land.
Those papyrus paintings always made me feel like I was back in Egypt.
The room hummed with their golden nectar.
I loved this magical sanctuary.
It was like a second home to me.
But today, as I went to sit on the couch, my attention was drawn away from the art, away from the expanse of the bay to a book with a red cover resting on the coffee table.
I immediately reached to pick it up.
As I did, something extraordinary happened.
An energy passed through me.
It was a book on Human Design.
The first I had ever seen.
It had been 9 years since that original introduction to Human Design in 2004.
As I flipped through the pages the information downloaded into me.
What had been so edgy and esoteric was suddenly pragmatic, simple, and clear.
The transmission of Human Design filled every cell in my body.
Overcome by a drive to understand more, I contacted the author and immersed myself in everything Human Design.
Times had changed in the intervening nine years.
Instead of hand calculating the charts, you could now send away for a computer printout.
I began running charts for my family, my friends, and my clients, bringing them directly into my psychotherapy sessions.
My understanding of who people were, how they functioned, and how to support them transformed radically.
With my Projector clients who carried deep stories of not being seen or recognized, we shifted the lens.
Rather than locating the wound in childhood trauma, (usually projected on to parents), we explored the inherent challenges of being a Projector in a Generator-dominated world.
They needed more space.
More rest.
More permission to magnetize rather than assert.
They needed to be invited and recognized.
For others, their charts revealed blocked capacities to manifest or initiate.
The work was always a reclamation.
A coming home.
A recalibration.
Human Design gave me a way to see people clearly.
To understand what they were here to do, how they were here to do it, and what might be obstructing the natural unfolding of their entelechy, their unique purpose.
My compassion deepened.
Where I might once have judged, I now saw the dynamics of an operating system at play.
Even long after my mother had passed, understanding she was a Manifestor softened my lingering judgments.
Her dominance was not personal.
Her independence was natural to her design.
Something to be appreciated rather than resisted.
And while I was witnessing breakthroughs with clients, friends, and family, the greatest impact was on myself.
For the first time, my life made sense.
– With my Open Head and Ajna, I understood why I had felt mentally inadequate in a family of brilliant minds.
– With my Open Throat, I understood why I had felt voiceless and turned to writing.
– With my Open Identity and Will, I understood why I had struggled with feeling loved, direction and self-worth.
– With Gate 3, Difficulty at the Beginning, Neptune in the Gate of Struggle, and a 6th line profile destined to learn through trial and error—I understood why I had experienced much of my early life as a nightmare.
No wonder the early years were so hard!
What once felt shameful became inevitable.
What once felt wrong became formative.
Awareness became a healing salve.
And the ground I found in myself became the ground I could offer others.
When I read about my Human Design Incarnation Cross – The Cross of Wishes – it was as if my world clicked into place. My assignment was clear.
You will find yourself ahead of what others comprehend as possible, and you must persevere to expand their horizons so all achieve what you know can be done.
Recognizing that you carry within the means to open people’s eyes to a range of possibilities that they cannot see for themselves will inspire you to broadcast your own dreams into their lives.

Thrilled with what I was discovering, I started shifting away from taking new psychotherapy clients to giving Human Design sessions.
At first it was a disaster.
I was so excited to share everything I knew about people’s charts.
The sessions would last two to three hours.
Often people’s eyes would glaze over.
I would be exhausted.
It was simply too much information.
Too much input.
What was so clear and compelling to me was simply overwhelming them.
And my throat was burning out.
This was not sustainable!
I had been used to being a listener.
Suddenly I was speaking.
And speaking.
And speaking.
I had a missionary zeal that honestly left no room for the person to exist.
I was still leading from my head, even though the information was awakening…
I had not yet learned how to let the heart lead.
Don’t get me wrong…people did have breakthroughs.
But I had to learn that the sessions weren’t about me “sharing” information.
They were about the person.
I had to go back to my well-honed listening skills and respond to the issues people presented.
I also had to learn to give people prep work, so that when they came, I wasn’t having to lay out all the ground work every time.
As I became more skilled, I knew that Human Design needed to be out in the world.
It would be like having an MRI machine when everyone else has only Xray machines.
The technology needed to be known and utilized by others.
I couldn’t possibly work with enough people doing one on one sessions to shift the trajectory of people’s lives waiting to be touched by Human Design.
It was clear – I had to reach the people who were in positions of impacting people.
At that point, it was no longer a choice. Human Design needed to move beyond me.
I felt compelled to write books that would reach leaders, coaches, therapists, parents, and healers.
The visionaries of our time.
The people who knew there was more than what they had available to them.
The people who were always looking for the next breakthrough.
To this end, I wrote four best-selling books – one a year.
– Understanding Your Clients through Human Design: The Breakthrough Technology
– Understanding the Centers in Human Design: The Facilitator’s Guide to Transforming Pain into Possibility.
– Understanding the Profiles in Human Design: The Facilitator’s Guide to Unleashing Potential.
– And finally, Human Design and Essential Oils, The Facilitator’s Guide to Using Plant Prana to Align with Your Type, Strategy, Authority, Profile, and Centers.
By the time I had published my last book (which has its own story, that requires a separate conversation), Human Design had taken hold in mainstream culture.
It had spread like wildfire.
In addition to writing about Human Design, I had spent those years developing a Human Design certification training and guiding coaches, therapists, healers, leaders, and visionaries to use Human Design with their clients.
The challenge was that with the proliferation of Human Design, there had also been a distortion. Or, from my view, a misuse, a misunderstanding of Human Design.
Instead of opening people, I watched people become identified with aspects of their charts, and use the information to justify their behaviors or to reify their wounding.
I worked diligently in my trainings to veer away from “readings” – telling people who they were.
I guided students in meditation to connect with the transmission of their chart, and their client’s charts.
My colleague, Jennet Burghard, and I incorporated Relational Presence in all our classes to support people to prioritize connection over content. To step into the NOW with people.
To this day, a big piece of the training is learning how NOT to give sessions from our heads, but rather to open into the space of our hearts.
In fact, one of the biggest teachings in Human Design is that our minds are not our authority.
Turning back to authenticity, to our Inner Authority is the cornerstone of the work.
As we approach 2027, that Human Design shift to a new era, now more than ever we need to come home to ourselves.
We need to tap into our Inner Authority.
Or as my friend Pali says, we need to be on our own behalf.
This is no small task.
We have been so conditioned to go to our minds to navigate the world.
How are we going to do it?
Is there a path forward?
With that, I’ll pause.
And leave you at the doorway to Part 4 of my journey.
This is the next turn on the spiral away from the head towards the heart.
This is where I meet Greg Toews and the Human Design Essential Oils, as well as Pali Summerlin, and the Awakening path of Human Design.
This is where I invite you to join me in the unfolding…
🌺Blessings,
Robin
