Awakening Through Life's Flow
Sitting on my deck after a lovely morning beach walk with Yarrow, the ocean, the moon…🌺🌙
Contemplating…
Or more like, being contemplated…
On the drive home from the beach Yarrow said something like —Â
Imagine if we were driving in Berkeley right now…
IÂ immediately was in Berkeley.
Fully, as if I had been transported there.
Then she said, Or Inverness.
My awareness shifted, I found myself walking the streets in the nearby town of Point Reyes.
In that moment I had the visceral understanding of what Pali has said (over and over and over…) that everything arises in consciousness.
I got it.
There is no separation.
It’s mind blowing.🌟
I’ve spent the last three afternoons in an intensive with Pali. And the last three mornings teaching an Awakening Through Human Design intensive to students in the Yearlong Training.
The combination has altered me.
With Pali, I worked a trigger that revealed an embedded pattern of protection and defensiveness. A feeling that my goodness was being attacked.
As I did the Six Steps with the trigger, I felt the lifetime habit of contracting in my chest dissolve.
I teach from a Human Design perspective that every voice matters.
This weekend I realized that when I hear a voice that I don’t like, I resist it, make it wrong, take it personally – instead of allowing, instead of being in curiosity, I defend.
But this softening in my chest offers a different opportunity…
To deepen into the space of listening.
Of allowing…
And this softening in my chest, this letting go of an old defensive structure, alters my world in a way that allows me to experience life as consciousness.
A flow.
Which brings me to the current Human Design transits:
Bear with me, I’ll swing back around to consciousness in a moment…
The Sun is in Gate 11🌞
The Moon is in Gate 12🌏
Gate 11 is the Gate of Ideas.
It is Collective Sensing Circuitry.
People with this Gate (and when it’s transiting, like it is now), typically have more ideas than they know what to do with.
There is a geyser of creativity and possibility.
And, the desire to share ideas based in their experiences.
Gate 12 is the Gate of Caution.
It is Individual Knowing Circuitry.
It comes off the Throat Center and has a creative genius, a deep knowing.
It speaks passionately about the highs and lows of humanities experience.
The trick here is timing –
When to share so that this voice of knowing can be heard…
And knowing who is capable of receiving the wisdom.
That is the caution.
The wisdom is the awareness to not throw pearls to swine.
I have Gate 11 in my chart.
I know what it’s like to have more ideas than I know what to do with.
I also know what it’s like to have NO ideas.
And the suffering that has caused me when I’m tasked with writing something or teaching something and I hit up against BLANK. NADA.
Definition of the Chart
When you look at your chart, wherever it is colored in is called Definition.
Wherever it is white is called Undefined, or Open.
Undefined or Open
If, say, you don’t have Gate 11 colored in on your chart, it suggests that you don’t have consistent access to that energy.
It’s typically not a theme that occupies you.
Instead. you interact with that energy in relation to the transits of the planets (like now while the Sun is transiting Gate 11)
Or you interact with that Defined energy when you are around someone who has the energy Defined.
Maybe you live with someone who has Gate 11 Defined in their chart?
Or you have a friend of co-worker with Gate 11.
If you’re Open (let’s say in Gate 11) you take in and amplify that Defined energy!
If you’re Open (again let’s say Gate 11), you’re here to be wise about ideas, discerning.
It’s also where you can be conditioned, where you can take on other people’s ideas and identify with them as your own.
You can become fixed or rigid around ideas, rather than the witness of them…
Definition, polarity, and going meta.
What’s important to keep in mind is that Definition in the chart operates within polarity.
You have it or you don’t.
But the theme is there regardless.
If we’re talking about Gate 11, it looks like ideas or lack of ideas.
If we’re talking about Gate 12, it looks like speaking our passions or not- a bold or shy theme.
Then there is the potential of going meta to the polarity…
What Pali calls getting off the stick…
Here, something profound and magical happens…
We rest back in Awareness,
We soften into a place of Oneness.🌺
We are freed from the ego’s desires and aversions.
We are no longer in the clutches of an asserted identity that needs to get something or avoid something.
Going meta is the path of Awakening.
As I sit overlooking the ocean contemplating that ride home from the beach…
That experience of being transported to Berkeley, to Point Reyes…
The experience of no boundaries…
Of all life arising in consciousness…
I understand the meta of Gate 11:
I am no longer a person having thoughts and ideas,
I am the ocean of thoughts and ideas.
(Getting a bit esoteric here!)
It’s crystal clear.
Thoughts are arising in consciousness.
Now I understand when Byron Katie would say to me:
There are no new thoughts…
And,
You think you’re thinking that?
Thoughts arise.
hey don’t belong to you…
In this moment there are more thoughts arising than I could possibly speak or write!
That Gate 12 wants to articulate its passion!
But for now,
I will leave you basking with me…
In the ocean of consciousness…
In the awe and wonder of this magnificent unfolding display…
With the moon and the water…
And another day…
Another opportunity to discover
Who we are.
Or as Rumi (from a very Gate 12 place) says:
Beyond the field of right and wrong there is a place.
I’ll meet you there.
Reflections from the Awakening Journey
A few of the takeaways people had from the Awakening Through Human Design Intensive this weekend:
I used to get really nervous going to personal development things – thinking that they’re going to figure out I’m a fraud.
I don’t feel that this week.
I’m becoming that new person that I’ve been really wanted to be.
This space has brought that forward for me

So thankful for this group.
For me being able to share and be vulnerable.
Getting to know myself with others.

When I first moved to Maui I had the feeling – I’ve come home.
Then when we got our house, I felt – I’m home.
Sitting here right now I feel an even deeper layer…
I’m coming home…
We are all coming home to ourselves.🌺

I feel full.
My head is full of ideas, thoughts, curiosities.
My heart is full of connection.
Just a prime example of my desire to learn through relationship with others…
Learning about myself through connecting with others.
